Find us at the Balsham Feast Day

Saturday 7th July is Balsham Feast Day.. The Feast is being held on the Recreation Ground, situated just off Church Lane starting at 1 pm until 4.30pm. You will find us near The Haverhill Band and the Balsham Ploughmen, where some of the maps and documents featured in our book Balsham, a village story 1617-2017 will be on display. Copies of the book will also be on sale.

At both locations, members of the team, involved in producing Balsham, a village story 1617-2017 will be on hand to chat all things local history and books.

If you want to see more yesteryear items about Balsham, visit the Church Institute where photographs and other material will be featured in an exhibition. This display has been curated by Jan Ellam, one of our very talented authors and she told us more...

In a few days time the traditional Balsham Feast will be upon us once more with a fabulous programme of fun and entertainment lined up for us all.

In conjunction with the Feast there will be a Photographic Exhibition  in the Church Institute 12.00 – 5.00,  featuring  the ‘Pam Pask’ collection of village photos. In addition to this collection there will be:

  • an ending of WW1 Commemorative display
  • photos from our Sporting past
  • village growth and change over the last 100 years
  • street scenes – then and now
  • family history research records.
  • opportunity to buy Balsham, a Village Story 1617-2017

Entry is Free but donations towards the ‘Balsham Tommy Fund’ would be welcome*

*The Balsham Tommy Fund has been initiated to raise enough money to purchase a ‘Tommy, there but not there’ image for our village, firstly for use at the 100 years Armistice Day 2018 Service and secondly as a permanent memorial to our men lost in the two wars . For those of you who have not seen these statues they are a 6ft. high, aluminium outline of a First World War Soldier, with a hole in which to place a poppy, it is a particularly poignant image which embodies the ‘there but not there’ message.  A smaller table top statue will be on show at the Exhibition.  Cost of the 6ft. Statue is £750 including VAT.  The fund will run from 1st July to 30th September and donations can be left at the Institute on 7th July, the Ploughmen’s raffle stall on the field or dropped through my letter box at 3 Woodhall Lane.  The Balsham Ploughmen have kick started the fund with a very helpful donation, so come on let’s get this memorial in place to honour our loved ones who are no longer with us but certainly not forgotten.  Profits from the sale of the ‘Tommies’ will enable the sellers remembered to support the following charities: The Royal Foundation: Help for Heroes: Heads Together, Walking With The Wounded, Combat Stress, The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation and Project Equinox: Housing Veterans.
