December 2014

Our final meeting of the year was even more informal than usual!  Members provided food and drink and with invited guests, we shared the progress of the project over the past year.

Disappointingly we have not yet obtained sufficient funding to see the project through.  However, we will be taking advice and remain optimistic for the coming year.

So much has come out of the project, it is difficult to know where to stop!  We really enjoy the meetings and plans for our exhibition in March will begin early in 2015.

Please go to our Picture Gallery to see how we ended the year, photo's at the bottom of the page.

In the meantime, from all of the Map Group we wish you a Merry Christmas and successful New Year.

November

Following our summer recess we are busy making plans.  March 2015 will see an updated  presentation of our project at the Village Hall.

Sadly, during the summer, after a short illness, one of our key members passed away. His enthusiasm for what we are trying to achieve was infectious and we owe it to him to see the project come to fruition.

Funding is still vital - no luck so far!

We are enjoying the research involving the multitude of sources at our disposal, it's amazing what's out there.

Family History fair

Cambridgeshire Archives & Local Studies identifies, collects, preserves and promotes the use of historical records relating to Cambridgeshire, including the former counties of Huntingdonshire and the Isle of Ely. The online CALM catalogue is the gateway for researchers to access details about their archive collections and contains descriptions relating to nearly a third of a million historical documents.

Cambridgeshire Archives & Local Studies will be one of the exhibitors at our family history fair on 25 October.

What did you think?

It's been a few weeks since our exhibition was held at the Balsham Feast. We had lots of requests to extend the exhibition, with people wanting to come back on Sunday to see more. Unfortunately the Feast was for one day only.

If you did come along, do let us know through our contact form or comment below, on what you thought of our stand. It is so important that we showcase our work to our community in an accessible way. We'd love to know what we can improve before we present the work again.

Or maybe we were perfect!

Thank you!

The team are exhausted! We've had a great time at the Balsham Feast, our annual village fete and it's been wonderful to share our work with the village. We're hoping to attend a few other events on local history in the next year.

We'd love to hear what you thought about the maps and what else you'd like to see. Just head over to the contact us page and drop us an email. We'll post up a few photos this week of the Feast day.
